Traumatic brain injuries can have a dramatic impact on victims

Brain injuries contribute to a significant number of deaths and disabling injuries each year. In total, during 2012, 2.5 million victims suffered brain injuries. TBI injuries account for 30 percent of all injury-related deaths. Traumatic brain injuries are caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head that disrupts the normal function of the brain. Traumatic brain injuries can be open or closed injuries and closed-head injuries can sometimes be difficult to spot so it is important to watch for the symptoms of a traumatic brain injury following a car accident, for instance.

Traumatic brain injuries can have a lasting and unexpected impact on the lives of victims. TBIs can impact functions including thinking, memory, movement, sensation and emotional functions. Unfortunately, a traumatic brain injury victim may not be recognizable to themselves or their family members following a traumatic brain injury. As a result, TBIs can be especially costly and challenging to treat as they may last a lifetime.

Car accidents are the third leading cause of traumatic brain injuries. Victims of brain injuries may incur significant medical expenses, an inability to work or earn a living because of the impact of their injury and may also suffer pain and suffering damages as a result of the dramatic impact a brain injury can have on their lives. A personal injury claim for damages can assist victims in recovering compensation for the damages they have suffered.

Personal injury options are available to ensure victims are protected and are able to obtain compensation for the harm suffered. When a victim has suffered a traumatic brain injury because of a negligent driver in a car accident, it is important that they are familiar with personal injury legal options available to help them as they navigate the recovery process from their injuries.
