Wrongful Death Archives

Pennsylvania man takes motorcyclist's life in drunk driving crash

By the age of 50, one Pennsylvania man has been arrested more than a dozen times for driving under the influence of alcohol, he has pled guilty to six of the charges and has been convicted of drunk driving a total of eight times. With such a shocking track record, it would seem highly unlikely that the man could have had a valid driver's license. Shockingly, had the man taken the time to fill out the correct paperwork, he could have had a driver's license as early as 2012. Regardless, his most recent arrest and conviction will keep him off the road for the next eight to 17 years.

Parents say pet store was negligent in selling infected rat

It is unlikely that many people in Pittsburgh know of anyone who has had rat-bite fever, a condition that is most often contracted by handling infected rats and other rodents. Typically, a person must be scratched or bitten by the rat, but anyone can contract the condition just by consuming something with the streptobacillus moniliformis bacteria in it. Fortunately, most people who become infected are fine after a round of antibiotics, but the condition can be fatal.

Wrongful death case possible after Pittsburgh area hit-and-run

Accidents can happen at any time of the day or night. Some drivers might assume that less vigilance is needed in the early morning hours because of the assumption that fewer pedestrians are out. However, a recent accident in the Pittsburgh area underscores the importance of watching for pedestrians at all times. For the family of the victim of the accident, filing a wrongful death case may help them cope with the expenses stemming from their loved one's death.

Jimmy John's 'freaky fast' delivery may have cost man his life

About an hour's south of Pittsburgh and just across the border, a woman has filed a lawsuit against the national sandwich chain Jimmy John's. The reason behind the lawsuit goes back to mid August when the woman's father was walking his dog near his home in Morgantown. He was crossing the street and only a few blocks from home when a Jimmy John's delivery driver struck and killed him.

Chain reaction accident causes wrongful death in Pennsylvania

Most drivers, whether from Pennsylvania or another state, know what it's like to get trapped in heavily congested traffic. Moving at irregular stop-and-go speeds in a long line of cars and tractor-trailers can be a dangerous way to travel. It is easy to see how a serious accident or even wrongful death could occur if any of the motorists lose focus or drive while distracted.

28-year-old man killed in car accident, 2 more injured

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a 28-year-old man and left a 30-year-old woman and an 8-month-old girl injured. While the woman and girl were flown to two different Pittsburgh hospitals, it is still unknown just how serious their injuries are. Moreover, there is little information on whether doctors believe they will ever recover.

The holidays can be a time for sorrow, too

For most people in Pittsburgh, the holiday season is filled with fun, friends and family. It is a time to use up vacation days, go to holiday parties and spend time with loved ones. For many, this may mean having a drink or two, but there are also some who drink too much and then get in their cars.

4 injured, 3 killed in wrong-way accident in Mercer County

It is an absolute tragedy when someone is killed in a car accident, especially if the accident could have been prevented. Fatal car accidents affect more than just the person who was killed, but his or her family, friends and the community, too. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why family members choose to file wrongful death lawsuits after the loss of a loved one. When it is clear that someone else's negligence has caused a death, that person (or his or her estate) can be held responsible for the fatal crash.
