Paul Miller’s Law: What Drivers in Pennsylvania Need to Know

Effective June 5, 2025, Paul Miller’s Law officially makes it illegal to use a handheld cell phone while operating a vehicle in Pennsylvania—even if you’re stopped at a red light or sitting in traffic. This new law is a major step toward improving road safety and reducing distracted driving accidents.

Named in memory of Paul Miller, a young man tragically killed by a distracted driver, the law aims to prevent similar tragedies by encouraging drivers to stay focused behind the wheel. Under this legislation, drivers can still use hands-free technology (like Bluetooth), but holding a phone to talk, text, or check GPS is now a traffic offense that comes with fines and potential points on your license.

As personal injury attorneys, we’ve seen firsthand how distracted driving can change lives in an instant. While this law is a positive step forward, accidents caused by distracted drivers still happen. If you or a loved one has been injured due to someone else’s negligence behind the wheel, you have the right to seek compensation for your medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.

At Gismondi & Associates, we’re committed to holding distracted drivers accountable and fighting for the justice victims deserve.
