Failure To Diagnose Cancer

Pittsburgh Lawyers Representing Victims Of Misdiagnosed Cancer

Cancer, a disease in which abnormal cells grow and destroy adjacent tissues, is responsible for 25 percent of all deaths in the United States. Hardly anyone has a friend or family member who has not been affected by this most dreaded of diseases. Whether it is cancer of the breast, lung, colon, cervix or skin, the three keys to successfully treating cancer are early detection, Early Detection and EARLY DETECTION! Unfortunately, doctors often miss the telltale signs of cancer and the disease is not found until it is too late to save the patient.

I’m attorney John Gismondi, founder of Gismondi & Associates. We are lawyers who have more than 30 years of experience in representing families in Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania who have suffered losses because a doctor failed to detect their cancer early enough to successfully treat it. We have handled all types of cancer cases, including:

Diagnosis Of Your Cancer

The key with any cancer is to detect it and treat it before it spreads to remote areas (the medical term for this is “metastasis”). The signs of cancer vary depending on its type and location. If it’s in the breast, the most common symptom is a new lump. For lung cancer, a sudden cough or change in breathing patterns in a known smoker is key. For rectal cancer, abnormal bleeding with a bowel movement may be the telltale sign. Regardless of the type of cancer, however, doctors have available to them a variety of tests that can be used to detect cancer when a patient has suspicious signs or symptoms. Those tests may include simple blood work and X-rays, or more sophisticated studies such as CT, bone or PET scans. The treatment for most cancers is some form of surgery and either chemotherapy or radiation. With all treatment, the goal is to prolong or save the life of the patient while at the same time minimizing side effects.

A Lawsuit Provides Compensation … And More

We wish that we could turn back the hands of time and undo what has happened to you or your family. Unfortunately, no lawyer has that power. However, with a successful lawsuit we can reduce the burdens you face by obtaining full and complete compensation for everything that you have experienced as a result of your injury or the death of a family member … mounting medical bills, lost wages, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, and perhaps most importantly, the loss of the relationship and companionship of a loved one.

We will also fight for compensation to cover everything that you may face in the future. Failure to diagnose cancer cases often involve long-term needs for things such as future surgeries, specialized equipment, personal attendant care and much more. Our goal is to provide full compensation for all of those needs so that you or your loved one can enjoy the very best quality of life possible and make the most of a difficult situation. After all, that is the least that you are entitled to.

Aside from providing you with full and complete compensation, a lawsuit can do one other very important thing: It can force changes to be made by the doctor or hospital that caused the injury to you or a loved one so that no other person or family has to go through what you have.
